This week’s buzz is about the new albums we can’t wait to get our hands on. Sorry Kieron, no official Katy Perry album news yet, but last August she did mention that she was doing a lot of experimenting and working with different producers. We hope that means a new album is on the way soon. Fingers crossed!
Kat’s Top 3: After a 15 year absence Bell Biv DeVoe, the R&B group that gave us the 90s hit Poison, has finally returned to the music scene. They just released their newest album Three Stripes and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with fellow New Edition members Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown and Johnny Gill.
The follow up to John Mayer‘s last album Continuum is finally on its way! In January he released a 4 song EP called The Search For Everything – Wave 1. He plans to release more 4 song EPs every month until the full album is released.
It’s been 15 years since TLC released their last album 3D. In February of 2015, fans helped T-Boz & Chilli raise over $430,000 to fund their final album through a Kickstarter campaign and have been waiting patiently for this new music to finally come out. No release date yet, but we should be hearing something soon.
Honorable Mentions: Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, U2, Depeche Mode, Liam Payne and Blondie.
Rumor: Nothing is confirmed, but people are wondering if Harry Styles is going to drop an album sometime this year. I heard through the grapevines that something may happen around the Grammy Awards, which takes place on February 12, but at this point it’s just gossip and wishful thinking.
Matt’s Top 3:
Lorde: There’s been a lot of young female singers who have followed in Lorde’s footsteps since her first album Pure Heroine was released four years ago. The question now is whether the New Zealand singer can continue to lead the pack when she releases her follow-up record, rumored to be coming sometime in the spring. It’s going to be hard to live up to such a successful debut, but I’m betting she’s going to blow us all out of the water.
Kelly Clarkson: Kelly described her upcoming June album as “soulful urban pop”, and I couldn’t be more excited. While we all love a good pop-rock song like “Stronger” or “Miss Independent”, Clarkson said this record will be closer to the likes of Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. HECK. YES.
Gorillaz: It’s been seven years. The world needs a new Gorillaz album. Period. Details have been scarce, as per usual, but all signs point to Damon Albarn and his animated crew returning sometime in 2017. Thank god.
Honorable mentions: Charlie XCX, HAIM, The Flaming Lips
Rumor: I mean… it’s about time for Taylor Swift again, isn’t it?
